 * PENGERTIAN REPORT TEXT 

Report text adalah jenis teks dalam bahasa Inggris yang berisi informasi tentang suatu objek atau fenomena secara umum, berdasarkan hasil pengamatan, penelitian, atau studi. Teks ini bertujuan untuk menyajikan fakta-fakta yang diperoleh secara objektif, dan seringkali digunakan dalam konteks ilmiah, pendidikan, atau pelaporan. 


  * TUJUAN DAN FUNGSI REPORT TEXT 

TUJUAN:

Tujuan dari report text adalah untuk menyajikan informasi tentang suatu hal, fenomena, atau objek secara faktual dan objektif berdasarkan hasil pengamatan atau penelitian. Teks ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran yang jelas dan lengkap kepada pembaca mengenai topik yang dibahas. 

FUNGSI:

Fungsi utama report text adalah memberikan informasi umum tentang suatu objek, fenomena, atau peristiwa berdasarkan fakta dan hasil observasi. Teks ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran yang jelas dan terperinci tentang topik yang dibahas, serta membantu pembaca memahami topik tersebut lebih baik.


  *GENERIC STRUCTURE (Struktur Umum)

Teks laporan biasanya terdiri dari dua bagian utama: Klasifikasi Umum dan Deskripsi . Klasifikasi Umum memperkenalkan subjek laporan secara umum, sementara Deskripsi memberikan informasi lebih rinci tentang karakteristik, bagian, kualitas, kebiasaan, atau perilakunya.   

Berikut rincian lebih rincinya:

1. Klasifikasi Umum:

Bagian ini memperkenalkan subjek laporan secara umum.   

Memberikan gambaran umum atau klasifikasi topik secara luas.   

Ini dapat mencakup definisi atau informasi umum tentang subjek.   

Misalnya, jika laporannya tentang "penguin", klasifikasi umum mungkin menyatakan bahwa penguin adalah burung yang hidup di Belahan Bumi Selatan dan tidak dapat terbang.   

2. Deskripsi:

Bagian ini menyediakan informasi lebih rinci tentang subjek.   

Ini mungkin mencakup karakteristik fisik, bagian, kualitas, perilaku, habitat, atau aspek relevan lainnya.   

Misalnya, dalam laporan penguin, bagian deskripsi mungkin menyertakan rincian tentang ukuran, warna, kemampuan berenang, pola makan, dan kebiasaan bersarang.


  *LANGUAGE FEATURES (Ciri Kebahasaan)

Ciri kebahasaan (language features) dari report text adalah sebagai berikut:


 1. Menggunakan Simple Present Tense

Report text membahas fakta-fakta ilmiah atau informasi umum, sehingga umumnya menggunakan simple present tense.

Contoh:

"Cats have four legs."

"The sun rises in the east."

 2. Menggunakan General Nouns (kata benda umum)

Report text menggunakan kata benda yang bersifat umum, bukan spesifik.

Contoh:

"Birds" (umum) bukan "parrots" (khusus)

"Animals" bukan "lions"

 3. Menggunakan Relating Verbs / Linking Verbs

Biasanya menggunakan kata kerja  penghubung seperti is, are, has, have untuk  menjelaskan sifat atau keadaan.

Contoh:

"A whale is a mammal."

"Frogs have smooth skin."

 4. Menggunakan Action Verbs (jika perlu)

Digunakan jika menjelaskan proses atau aktivitas.

Contoh:

"Bees collect nectar from flowers."

"Plants absorb sunlight."

 5. Menggunakan Technical Terms (istilah ilmiah/teknis)

Report text sering memakai istilah teknis sesuai topik yang dibahas.

Contoh:

"Photosynthesis," "mammals," "ecosystem"

6. Menggunakan Descriptive Language

Untuk menggambarkan ciri, bentuk, fungsi, atau perilaku objek yang dilaporkan.

Contoh:

"It has a long tail and sharp claws."

Gajah adalah hewan darat terbesar di dunia. Gajah termasuk dalam keluarga Elephantidae dan dikenal karena kecerdasannya serta daya ingat yang kuat.

Deskripsi:

Gajah memiliki telinga yang besar, belalai yang panjang, dan kulit tebal berwarna abu-abu. Belalai digunakan untuk bernapas, mencium, minum, dan mengambil benda. Ada dua jenis utama gajah, yaitu gajah Afrika dan gajah Asia. Gajah Afrika lebih besar dan memiliki telinga yang lebih lebar dibandingkan gajah Asia.

Ant-eaters are perhaps the most curious-looking animals. Their long head and snout look like tubes, and they have no teeth.

Their front legs are very strong and armed with heavily curved claws with which they break open the nets of ants and termites and then, when the insects rush out, use their long, sticky tongues to lick them up at great speed.

True ant-eaters are found in the swamps and forests of Central and South America. Scaly ant-eaters, or pangolins, are found in Africa and tropical Asia.
